Main / Getting Started / Transitioning from another ISP to cyberMIND

Moving your domain name from one ISP to another change must be handled carefully.

Changing ISPs isn’t like changing long-distance providers. It’s far more crucial that things proceed smoothly and promptly. If they don’t, your customers may not be able to reach you, your employees won’t be able to send and receive e-mail. In short, your business operation could suffer.

That’s why cyberMIND has a well-defined set of procedures to assist you in switching from another ISP. These procedures serve two important purposes.First, they help ensure that the downtime of your domain is kept to an absolute minimum.Second, these procedures minimize the inconvenience to you in changing your Internet Service Provider.

A cyberMIND IP implementation engineer will call you to schedule cutover and discuss any final issues/concerns. Your primary responsibility will be to provide the following information:

  1. Internet Access Port.
Will you be transitioning your existing circuit to cyberMIND, or will you be purchasing an additional circuit with cyberMIND (multi-homing)?

  2. Local Access
You can provide your own local access (CPA) or use cyberMIND-provided local access (SPA).

  3. Domain Name Service (DNS) (primary or secondary).
    You have several options:
    • You can transition DNS from your former ISP to cyberMIND
    • You can provide your own primary DNS and use cyberMIND for secondary DNS
    • In a multi-homing environment, you can use another ISP for primary DNS, and use cyberMIND for secondary DNS.

  4. IP Addresses. You have several options:
    • You can use IP addresses provided by cyberMIND.
    • In a multi-homing environment, you can use the other ISP's addresses, and ask cyberMIND to allow the use of the other ISP's addresses to be routed on cyberMIND's network. cyberMIND will require a letter or e-mail from the other ISP indicating that cyberMIND may route the other ISP's blocks.
    • You can use IP addresses you received directly from ARIN (American Registry for Internet Numbers).

  5. E-mail.
Do you have an e-mail server that cyberMIND needs to place in your DNS file? Do you want cyberMIND to host your e-mail server?

  6. Web Hosting.
Do you have a web server that cyberMIND needs to place in your DNS file?
Do you want cyberMIND to host your web server?

  7. CPE such as routers.
Will cyberMIND be supplying your router? Will you purchase this equipment, or rent it?

  8. Net News.
Do you currently have Net News and need to transition it to cyberMIND?

With these questions answered, an order for Dedicated Internet Access can be submitted. You can also provide any additional information at that time that you
think would be useful during implementation (the “comments” section of the order form is intended for just this purpose).
