In the past, cyberMIND would assign customers IP addresses
in single allocations or in Class C blocks. A
single Class C block contained 254 individual addresses. A
customer who, for example, needed 100 IP addresses would be
assigned one Class C block, leaving 154 addresses unused.
In an effort to more efficiently use address space, cyberMIND
has moved away from the practice of assigning addresses in
Class C blocks and instead assigns only the number of individual
addresses the customer needs. This is accomplished by assigning
subnetted Class Cs when necessary.
Your DSL Connection includes one static IP address. Additional
addresses may be obtained for a nominal fee. You may order
additional IP addresses online by visiting the cyberMIND
eStore.
American Registry For Internet Numbers (ARIN)
cyberMIND s IP Address Policy is designed to meet the
requirements established by the American Registry for Internet
Numbers (ARIN). ARIN issues requirements to manage the short
supply of globally-unique IP addresses and, generally, to
sustain the Internets long-term viability. ARIN is the
North American authority for IP address distribution and use.
Similar organizations distribute IP addresses to users in
other parts of the world. For example, APnic allocates addresses
for Asian users, and RIPE allocates addresses for European
users.
For a complete description of ARIN guidelines, visit www.arin.net.
Eligibility
As a cyberMIND Dedicated Internet Access customer you are
eligible to use cyberMIND-provided IP addresses on the Internet.
However, if you cancel your service, that eligibility is likewise
canceled. When service is terminated, cyberMIND reassigns
customers IP addresses to other cyberMIND customers.
Price of IP addresses
You can use your cyberMIND-provided IP address at the current
IP fee. If you use IP addresses obtained directly from ARIN,
must pay ARIN a fee.
Percent utilization
ARIN requires that at least 80% of a customers previously
assigned addresses be allocated before additional addresses
are assigned.
Maximum number of addresses
ARIN guidelines restrict the largest address block Sprint
can assign to a customer to a /18 (equivalent
to 64 Class Cs, or 16384 addresses). If you need a block of
addresses larger than a /18, you will need to forward your
application directly to ARIN. Remember that you must pay ARIN
for addresses you obtain directly from ARIN.
Address source alternatives
Customers may not use cyberMIND-provided IP addresses with
another ISP’s Internet Access service. Customers must cease
using cyberMIND-provided IP addresses on the Internet when
their cyberMIND Dedicated Internet Access service is terminated.
